A highly ornamental fern, from the Aspleniaceae family. The genus Asplenium includes more than 700 species. Native to the tropical (warm and humid) regions of Asia, Australia and Africa, it owes its pretty vernacular name to its nest-shaped heart. Capable of reaching 1.5 m in height in its natural environment, it is an epiphytic plant (it lives on other plants without damaging them) or even a lithophyte (it is capable of growing on rock). It has the ability to capture environmental humidity to cover part of its water needs and also temporarily stores rainwater in its heart.
